About Us
Our Guiding Principles
We envision a vibrant future where every community is nourished by a just and resilient local food system—one that honors the land, supports regenerative agriculture, and ensures healthy, affordable food is available to all.
Our Mission
Local food. Lasting impact.
Our mission is to transform southern Idaho’s food system by connecting people to local food, supporting regional producers, and fostering vibrant, resilient communities.
Our Values
These values are the guiding principles that shape our mission, culture, and decision-making. They reflect what we stand for and ensure every action we take is aligned with our purpose and desired impact.
Community Driven
We reflect the voices, needs, and strengths of the people we serve. Our work is guided by active listening, participatory action, and a commitment to collective well-being.
Place Based
We respect the unique character, culture, and resources of the places we work. Our efforts are rooted in local knowledge, relationships, and a sense of belonging.
Regenerative
We go beyond sustainability to actively restore and renew ecological and human systems. Our actions aim to create lasting positive impact for land, people, and communities.
Resilient
We foster systems and relationships that can withstand challenges and evolve over time. In the face of change, we bring strength and encourage adaptability.
Vibrant - We cultivate energy, creativity, and joy in all that we do. We believe in the power of thriving communities to inspire and uplift.

Transforming what it means to source and eat local
Our History
Today we are known as Future Roots with great respect for our foundation and our roots in community resilience. Sun Valley Institute for Resilience (SVIR) was founded in 2015 when Aimée Christensen convened local and global leaders to strengthen our community by identifying regional threats and leveraging policy leadership, public engagement and community investments to turn risks into opportunities and build enduring quality of place. After merging with the Local Food Alliance, co-founded by Ali Long, food system transformation became a critical strategy to achieve the vision of community resilience held by the founding director and board.
