Mike Gordon
Communications and Events Manager
Employment Background:
After college, I turned my philosophical background toward the practical while working with the Schumacher Center for New Economics, helping broaden the reach of the Center’s innovative local economy programs including BerkShares local currency and the community land trust model. After moving to Idaho, I became deeply rooted in the local food system while working with Lava Lake Land & Livestock.
Educational Background:
I earned an undergraduate degree in Environmental Philosophy from the University of New Hampshire. Through the works of Wendell Berry, Wes Jackson, E. F. Schumacher, and others, I developed a deep belief in the power of communities to bring about global change.
More about me:
As I travel, I cherish making the connection between food and place: oysters on a dock in Tomales Bay, shaved truffles over tagliatelle in an Istrian konoba, maple syrup straight from a wood-fired boiler in Vermont, wild range lamb on the grill in Idaho.
Favorite ingredient or dish/season:
Spring: Creamy Asparagus Soup
Summer: A fresh sliced tomato
Fall: A glass of heritage apple cider
Winter: Local beef bourguignon
Favorite past times/hobbies/activities:
Cyclist, food tourist, and board game player
