More about me:
I co-own a 107 acre coffee farm on the Big Island of Hawaii with my bother and sister-in-laws. We started Hawaiian Cloud Forest Coffee in 1998 on land that together we owned and on nearby land that we subsequently added to the farm. It is the largest certified organic coffee farm in Hawaii and in the U.S.
Currently we have 21,722 arabica coffee trees planted which are shaded by an additional 6,434 koa trees. Koa is a valuable hardwood only gown at elevations of 2,000 - 5,000 feet on the windward sides of some of the Hawaiian Islands. Koa is used for furniture, cabinets, flooring, and wood carvings.
Currently the farm harvests, mills, roasts, and markets its certified coffee direct to customers worldwide by mail-order, and to restaurants and retail outlets that sell organic coffee. In the coming years the farm will market its koa as it matures, generally 25 to 30 years after being planted.
