Every meal at school is an opportunity to nourish a student, support a local family, and strengthen our community. We believe school food can do more than fill a tray. It can fuel, heal, spark curiosity, and connect kids to both the land and neighbors who grow their food. Our next generation deserves to know where their school food really comes from, and see themselves as part of a thriving future local food system.
Why Farm-to-School
Food is one of the most powerful school-supplies we can invest in for student wellbeing. When kids can access and eat nutritionally dense, delicious meals, they're better fueled to learn, grow, and thrive, and school becomes a place where healthy habits take root.
Farm-to-School is also about cultivating a new culture in our cafeterias. By making meals something students look forward to, we can reduce stigmas and increase participation. When more students eat together, more families feel a sense of belonging, and that participation strengthens the whole community.
Dedication to higher quality school meals is also an opportunity to decrease food waste, meaning lower emissions and higher revenues for Blaine County School District, creating a healthier bottom line for our soil and school budget, alongside healthier kids.
When more of our school food dollars go directly to local farmers and ranchers, those dollars move through our local economy, creating a multiplier effect that benefits us all. Sourcing food regionally also means shorter supply chains and a lighter carbon footprint for our school food system. Farm-to-School is an investment in the wellbeing of our youth, our families, our food producers, and our local future.
