Adding Local to Their Lunches
It’s back to school time! As we start back up with the Farm-to-School Action Plan process in collaboration with Blaine County School District (more on that later), we thought we would also share some simple swaps to make your kids’ lunches more local. Changing out some of the processed foods for whole, local foods is a great place to start.
instead of packaged applesauce or fruit cups
Sliced apples and pears from Waterwheel Gardens, grapes, figs or berries from River Road Farm and Peters Family Farm via The Greenmarket or some of the last melons from King’s Crown Organic
Instead of individually packaged yogurt
Local yogurt from Silver Oaks Creamery topped with honey or fruit
Instead of packaged bread with processed spreads
Fresh bread from Hillside Grain or Hangar Bread topped with jam from Hailey Farms of honey from Daisy’s Farm
Instead of packaged string cheese
Cubes of local cheese from Ballard Cheese or Mountain Valley Farmstead
Instead of corporate owned salty snacks
Roots or Teton Brand Potato Chips
Homemade crackers using Hillside Grain flour
